I met filmmakers Barbara Attie and Janet Goldwater nearly two years ago when I took this portrait of them. They were working on their documentary Mrs. Goundo’s Daughter, which premieres on public television tomorrow.
Shot in Philadelphia and Mali, the film looks at the practice of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting through the story of a young immigrant mother in Philadelphia. It screens on WHYY and other channels at 7:30pm, EST. Take a moment to watch the trailer and learn a little bit about this important issue, or find local listings for your area.
