One of the sadder and more tragic moments of Philadelphia history, the 1985 MOVE bombing, happened right on the city’s western edge, on the 6200 block of Osage Ave right at the Cobbs Creek Border.
I’ve lived on Osage Ave since 2005, and when I think of that street name it generally conjures up warm associations & thoughts of home, friendly neighbors, block parties etc… but I have to honor that for some neighbors who’ve lived in Philadelphia longer than I, the name of Osage Ave conjures up memories of trauma, horror & grief.

A few years ago, there was a city wide ‘discussion” about monuments. I think it was backed by a big foundation, which put “Monument Labs” in various parts of the city to ask the question, What would a meaningful monument be for you?” I believe that there should be a monument dedicated to the lives lost and civic hubris that took over our police and fire forces on that day.
