Happy new year! It’s time to walk…

The winter Walk Around Philadelphia season is upon us, with twelve days of walks circumnavigating the entire Philly border, and a few bonus events along the way.

We’ve also got a new realtime availability dashboard that will show you which segments are full / waitlisted and which are available!

Our New Year’s Day walk collaboration with WeWalkPHL was a huge success… Forty people showed up, when last year we’d had twelve. It’s been wonderful seeing interest in Walk Around Philadelphia continue to grow, although it brings logistical challenges as we try to limit group size to 16-20 participants for most walk segments.

The last two seasons of walks were fully sold-out; we’ve added secondary groups on some days that increase our capacity by 50% but some of them are already filling up, so don’t wait to sign up!

Meet the Circumnavigators

If you missed our year-end event, check out the video above to hear from our Circumnavigators who’ve completed the entire epic 100+ trek around the city’s edge!

(And don’t let that 100 mile number intimidate you… you can start with any segment or partial segment! See the FAQ.)

Join our next in-person events

You’re also invited to come join us for a few walk-adjacent events:

  • NOTE: Our Jan 31 / Feb 14 events are probably moving across the street to Fringe Arts due to some evolving winter logistics at the pier.

Show some love for the walk

I’m upping my fundraising & grantwriting work this year with a goal to raise at least an extra $150,000 to support the continued development of this project. That’s to pay both Lily & myself as well as continuing to develop wayfinding materials & installations as well as providing stipends to participants facing financial hardship.

(Do you know that Walk Around Philadelphia provided nearly $7,000 in stipend support to our walkers this past year? This helped support 22 free registrations with $200 stipends for some of our walkers who needed the help to cover time away from work, childcare etc in order to participate as well as some stipend support for walkers to join in community outreach activities.)

We’ve been doing all of this on a shoestring budget with less than 10hrs/week of paid administrative support and a lot of volunteer time on my end, and that’s not sustainable. We need your help to continue developing this project!

Come walk with us!
