Local organizing

Let’s do this together
How to build community
There are simple steps that we can each take to help cultivate community. This poster by the Syracuse Cultural Workers is a great starting guide.
It was obviously designed before cell phones became ubiquitous, otherwise the first line might be “Put down your phone” or “Turn off your computer”…
Community starts wherever you are, with whoever’s around.
The minute that you close off a street to traffic, kids start playing in it.
Philadelphia lets you close off most residential blocks 5 times per year.
How about we make that happen where you live? Apply for a permit.
Coming soon-ish
Here’s where I’ll share some lessons from hyper-local community organizing in my neighborhood including:
- How to organize a block party
- How to get to know your neighbors
- How to organize a group chat for an apartment building
- What to do when they come tow all of the cars on your block
… in the meanwhile, you can hop on my email list for occasional updates, check out resources like CPI’s Citizen Toolkit or get started planning your own block party right now:
